One of my most incredible experiences, was riding in South East Botswana. We got so close to the game, in particular herds of elephants complete with tiny calves, and still felt safe. The horses are beautifully trained, albeit quite feisty, and they can sense whenever a predator is near. Even if you can't see the leopard or the lion, you can feel through your horse that they are close. It’s an extraordinary adventure and one that I would recommend to any horse lover.

Having spent my formative years growing up on one of Kenya's best known conservation projects, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, I have seen the decline of Kenya's wildlife and how, thanks to conservation, it is flourishing once again. An old African saying I have heard countless times is 'The prosperity of the trees is the well being of the birds,' so I am truly proud to have been part of such a project. I have had so many experiences growing up in Africa, but to watch the elephants congregate around my home a week before there is any sign of rain, to then march off to Samburu land to warmer, sandy soil when the rains come is a truly special experience.

For me Africa is more than just wildlife. To me it's about sounds, smells and vast openness which is hard to find anywhere else in the world. I love the silence, the colours and the rolling empty landscapes which you have all to yourselves. However much I travel, its still the simple memories which shine through. You can’t beat ending the day with a gin and tonic in hand, while watching the sun go down over the horizon as the sky paints a bright coloured masterpiece overhead.
