Baraza Resort and Spa, Zanzibar

Set on a 400-metre stretch of fine white sand facing a coral reef on the south-eastern coast of Zanzibar, Baraza Resort & Spa evokes Zanzibar in the age of the Sultans.

A fusion of Arabic, Swahili and Indian influences, with dramatic arches, intricate hand carved cement décor, beautiful antiques, hand made furniture and intricate brass lanterns, this beautiful boutique resort offers unparalleled standards of luxury and comfort.

There are 14 one-bedroom and 15 two-bedroom villas, as well as one two-bedroom Presidential villa. Unusually spacious and beautifully appointed, each has classic Swahili architecture and sumptuous décor with beautiful fabrics and hand carved furniture. They also have large bathrooms with luxury fittings, walk in dressing area, living room and an expansive terrace with sun loungers and private plunge pool. Other accessories include television, CD player and tea/coffee making facilities.

The chef at Baraza creates dishes from the finest produce that the island has to offer. Cuisine is inspired by Arabic, Indian, Persian, Asian and Swahili flavours incorporating the spices for which the island is famous. Every evening features a different influence showcasing the islands produce and spices. Breakfast is served al fresco on the Livingstone Terrace, whilst the Ocean Lounge Bar & Restaurant offers informal dining and traditional afternoon tea during the day. In the evening, dinner is served in the Sultan's Dining Room.
