Botswana
The Okavango is undoubtedly the most outstanding of Botswana’s natural wonders. This wetland paradise spreads out over the north-western reaches of the country in a wide fan of meandering floodplains dotted with islands and laced with an intricate web of waterways, which teem with game and bird life.
South of the Okavango, the Kalahari sand belt is an altogether different environment, a vast wilderness of salt pans and scorched plains, which supports a surprising diversity of wildlife. In the far north lies the arid expanse of the Chobe National Park where some of the world’s largest concentrations of elephant can be found.
