Denis Island, Seychelles

Just 25 air-conditioned cottages with luxury en-suite bathrooms are scattered alongside the beach either side of the main pavilion on the extreme north-western tip of the island. All are furnished and decorated in Creole style and each has a large, sea-facing verandah plus a private courtyard providing the perfect setting for a starlit alfresco shower.

The island itself is located on the edge of the Seychelles bank which plunges 2000 metres into the deep abyss of the Indian Ocean. A small professional PADI dive centre is affiliated to the resort providing a range of dive excursions and courses for both beginners and advanced divers alike. Enthusiasts flock to the waters of Denis for their abundance of game fishing - Dogtooth Tuna, Bonita, Marlin, Sail fish, Dorado, Barracuda and Wahoo are all regularly caught here. Natural lagoons provide sheltered swimming, snorkelling and non-motorised water sports all year round. There is also tennis and a volleyball court and the airstrip is available if you want to practice your golf shots!

A small village, an ancient lighthouse built in 1910, a redundant copra mill and the St. Denis Chapel, are all easily accessible via the meandering sand paths and palm fringed walks. Denis has strikingly rich vegetation and the fertile soil, which contains large quantities of guano, is proof that the island was once a popular nesting ground for seabird colonies. Turtles still lay their eggs in the sand here.

Denis Island offers various dining experiences in the all-day dining restaurant and well-stocked bar. A fabulous array of freshly caught seafood, marinated meats, exotic salads and fresh vegetables from the island’s own farm offer a fusion of tastes enhanced by local herbs and spices.
