Botswana and Victoria Falls

Botswana and Victoria Falls

Botswana, arguably Africa’s greatest wildlife destination, is our choice for a luxury wilderness journey of a lifetime.

A week taking in three of Africa’s diverse eco-systems, from the Okavango Delta to the plains of the Chobe Desert, followed by a visit to Victoria Falls, is a stunning introduction for a safari first-timer and a dream trip for old Africa hands.

The Botswana and Victoria Falls includes stays in three of Botswana’s finest camps, each owned and personally managed by Belmond (Orient-Express), the safari begins with two nights at Eagle Island Camp, overlooking a lagoon in the heart of the Okavango Delta.  From here guests can take a guided tour by canoe through water that mixes lilies with hippo!  Paradise for bird watchers, the delta is home to more than 450 species, including the rare fish eagle.

Next a light aircraft whisks you to the Khwai River Lodge for a further two nights. Overlooking the floodplains of the river that gives the lodge its name, game viewing really is on the doorstep, with some of the best sightings to be had from guests’ private viewing decks. The lodge has its own small spa and treatments derived from local plants are alfresco, offering a unique take on wildlife watching.

The last stop of this Botswana safari is the luxury thatched tents of Savuti Elephant Camp. Perched on the edge of what was once a simple watering hole, now a spectacular river, the area attracts an abundance of wildlife, with herds of elephant roaming the plains. By day, guests often gather around the pool and at night dine together under the star studded desert sky.

That experience may seem hard to beat, but the final two nights spent at Tongabezi, a camp on the banks of the Zambezi from where a visit to Victoria Falls is easily done, makes a grand finale to one of the world’s great wildlife adventures. Small and privately owned, Tongabezi is a favourite with The Ultimate Travel Company, and guests are taken care of by their own ‘valet’, whose knowledge of the area will be second to none.

This ten day luxury safari includes flights from Heathrow via Johannesburg, private transfers by road and light aircraft, all meals and local drinks, activities and park fees.
