High Arctic Explorer - Canada & Greenland

This 12-day sea journey across the vast canvas of the high Arctic begins and ends in the remote, northern settlement of Resolute on Cornwallis Island and one of the coldest inhabited places in the world.

Heading east through Lancaster Sound via the islands of Leopold and Devon, you will have every chance of seeing some of the Arctic's iconic wildlife - narwhal, walrus, polar bear and beluga whale all thrive here - before crossing Melville Basin to Cape York and the isolated Inuit community of Qaanaaq on the western coast of Greenland. You then head back across Baffin Bay to Pond Inlet on Baffin Island for a cultural demonstration that will include traditional drumming and throat singing. The local artisans here carve stone sculptures that have become sought-after collectors' items.

The return journey to Resolute takes you via the Cape Hay Migratory Bird Sanctuary on Bylot Island, home to a remarkable colony of murres, guillemots and kittiwakes who nest in their thousands on the towering cliffs.
