Spitsbergen - Polar Bear Quest
Some 350 miles north of Norway and just 600 miles from the North Pole, Spitsbergen (or Svalbard as it is known locally) is a stunning archipelago of immense glaciers, narrow fjords, sheer mountain cliffs and drifting ice floes. The wildlife is also abundant and astounding.
Following in the footsteps of such legendary polar explorers as Amundsen and Nobile, and escorted by ivory gulls, guillemots and puffins, you will venture to the more remote parts of the archipelago in search of whale, walrus and the 'lord of the Arctic', the magnificent polar bear. As much time as possible will be spent in the pack ice, and thanks to the midnight sun, the ship's rigid zodiacs will make landfall day and night in the most spectacular natural settings.
