Burma Cruises - Pandaw River Expeditions

Pandaw River Expeditions offer a varied schedule of river cruises on the Irrawaddy, aboard charming vessels that faithfully recreate the shallow draft paddle steamers of yesteryear, combining exquisite period décor and furnishings with every modern convenience.

Chindwin & Upper Irrawaddy: 20 nights (Remotest Burma)

The scenery on this cruise is spectacular where you are warmly welcomed by the many remote riverside communities. Reaching the goal of Homalin, over 600 miles from the Chindwin’s confluence with the Irrawaddy, you return downstream all the way to the ancient city of Bagan. The journey then continues for a further 700 miles up the Irrawaddy past Mandalay to the great 2nd Defile, near the city of Bhamo. This is the most northerly navigable point on the Irrawaddy and gateway to China.

One off cruise – 3 September 2012

The Golden Land: 10 nights (Mandalay-Bagan-Prome)

This is a very different travel experience. Sailing through the heart of 'Middle Myanmar/Burma' you pass through varying landscape - from the lush teak plantations around Prome to the desert country south of Bagan. You visit a number of small villages and towns and see local agriculture and manufacturing at first hand. These places are remote from the modern world and offer a glimpse of a timeless, lost Myanmar/Burma far from the usual tourist track. We also visit a number of old monasteries and temples of art historical interest in this the cultural heartland of old Myanmar/Burma.

Runs from October – March

The Irrawaddy: 14 nights (600 miles and see all Burma)

This cruise goes from the delightful city of Prome on the edge of the Delta to Katha and the great 2nd Defile on the Upper Irrawaddy. Daily stops include tours of the historic capitals of Bagan with its 3,000 monuments, and Mandalay with its royal palace and many sites around the city, particularly on the river. We will pass from the lush teak forests around Prome, through the near desert of Middle Myanmar/Burma and then into the mountains of Upper Myanmar/Burma.

Pandaw River Expeditions

From Pyay to Kalay: 14 nights

In 2012 for the first time there is the opportunity to join this exciting new river expedition from Pyay (Prome)  to Kalay. Pyay (Prome) is the first major Irrawaddy port to the north of Rangoon on the Irrawaddy River and Kalaywa, the main port on the Upper Chindwin River. This monsoon cruise will cover the middle part of Myanmar/Burma including Bagan with its 3000 monuments and the culturally rich Lower Chindwin with its little known art treasures and early wood carved monasteries. At this time of year when the Chindwin is in full flood the river is at its most dramatic but be prepared for heavy rain with sunny interludes between downpours. The skys and colours are dramatic and amazing. Walks ashore may be muddy and river banks slippery. This is a cruise strictly for Pandaw afficionados and not for first timers in Myanmar/Burma.

One off cruise – 20 August 2012
