Amanwana, Moyo Island, Sumbawa

Hidden away in a glade of tamarind, fig and banyan trees, this exotic jungle retreat comprises a main lodge and 20 teak-floored and air-conditioned tents facing a secluded white sand beach. Each tent features an open plan design with two sprawling divans in the living area, king-size bed and separate bathroom with twin showers.

The Dining Room and Bar are located in an open-air pavilion facing the sea. Indonesian hardwood flooring and solid coconut pillars support the tropical structure. A selection of Asian and Western food is served at breakfast, lunch and dinner. In season, a regular alfresco barbecue is available as are campfire dinners.

Just behind the beach, shaded by tamarind trees, is the Jungle Cove massage area. Simple coral-stone walls divide the outdoor centre into three treatment areas, each including a recessed soaking tub and a shower. Enjoy a massage, a fresh-fruit facial or a Borneo body scrub while watching the sun set over the Flores Sea or take a dip in the fresh water pool hidden within a forested grotto of coral rock.

Moyo is a paradise for hikers and nature lovers with a number of walks starting directly from the camp. A superbly equipped Dive Centre offers a range of courses from beginner to the more advanced. A fleet of vessels is available for sports fishing, sun-soaked excursions to secluded coral coves or romantic dinner cruises. Snorkelling equipment, windsurfers, kayaks and hobie-cats are all available.
