Japan Options

Japan has so much more to offer the visitor. Here we offer just a small taste, but please ask us for further suggestions.

Mountains: Explore the Japanese Alps at the old town of Takayama, which has been beautifully preserved, with many buildings and whole streets of houses dating from the Edo Period (1600-1868) when the city thrived as a wealthy town of merchants. The southern half of the old town, especially the Sannomachi Street, survives in a particularly pretty state with many old homes, shops, coffee houses and sake breweries, some of which have been in business for centuries. Stay at the Tanabe Ryokan, which first opened in the late 1920s and is very popular with artists and writers.

Hot Springs: The Kaga-onsen-go hot spring district is located at the southern hem of the Kanazawa Plain, which surrounds Kaga in southern Ishikawa. This district has four hot spring sites, Yamashiro, Awazu, Yamanaka and Katayamazu, and is known as the ‘inner parlour’ of the Kansai Region. Stay at the Beniya Mukayu Ryokan, where each room has a private outdoor hot spring bath.

Post-tour Relaxation: For those in need of relaxation after a demanding tour of Japan, the beautiful palm-fringed beaches of Thailand are not too far away. On the idyllic beach of Bang Tao Bay, Phuket, lies one of Asia’s most spectacular spa resorts, the Banyan Tree. One hour north, in Khao Lak, The Sarojin may be found nestled in 10 acres of beautiful grounds, overlooking a secluded white sand beach.
