Four Seasons Resort Langkawi, Malaysia

Beautifully landscaped gardens are sanctuary to 91 wonderfully spacious, en-suite, air-conditioned 'Pavilions', either ground or first floor, and detached Beach Villas all of which have been designed in contemporary Malay style with timber floors, soaring ceilings, Spanish marble bathrooms and open verandas with dining areas. The one-bedroom Beach Villas are sited just one step down to the beach and have their own gated entrance, leading to a 12 square metre private plunge pool and reflecting pond.

Facilities are all that one would expect from a Four Seasons resort. There is a 50-metre swimming pool overlooking the beach and the sea where guests are provided with suntan lotion, cool towels, freshly sliced tropical fruit and iced water. The poolside café serves refreshments and light meals. Other facilities include a Fitness Centre, a complimentary Kids For All Seasons programme, tennis and watersports including snorkelling, dinghy and hobie cat sailing, kayaking and windsurfing. Scuba diving and golf can be arranged nearby. The resort's spa has six secluded treatment pavilions and a pavilion where yoga and meditation classes are held.

The main restaurant, Serai, offers both interior and exterior dining, with a menu strongly influenced by Asian cuisine. Set in the style of a "limas", the traditional Malaysian residence, Ikan-Ikan specialises in fresh seafood, prepared in both local and Mediterranean styles.
