Life in the wild... Explore Australia's exciting lesser-travelled trails and take in the sights such as the beautiful Kangaroo Island and the fascinating region of Darwin.
This itinerary is a fascinating ‘off the beaten track’ journey incorporating some of Australia’s lesser known natural wonders and is perfect for a second time visitor.
The journey begins on the beautiful Kangaroo Island, one of the best places on the continent to see a menagerie of native animals in their native habitat, including the elusive koala. Back on the mainland you will start your drive up to Flinders Ranges, first stopping off at the Clare Valley, home to some high quality wineries and charming rustic villages. The rugged landscapes of the Flinders Ranges offer an authentic taste of outback life coupled with spectacular red rock scenery and rugged landscapes. After some time to explore Adelaide its time to embark on one of Australia’s great train journeys, The Ghan. Named after the Afghan cameleers who once traversed this route, The Ghan will take you from Adelaide to Darwin, via Alice Springs, essentially from one edge of the country to the other. Once in Darwin you will be taken out to view the ancient rock art, waterfalls, escarpments and Aboriginal culture of Kakadu National Park and Arnhemland. The best way to experience this area is by camping, however don’t worry we would include a night of Wild Bush Luxury at Bamurru Plains before heading back to Darwin, the perfect way to finish an amazing journey.
