Vatulele Island Resort, Fiji

The resort has 17 luxurious thatched bures set back from the beach in natural jungle. With a blend of rustic Fijian and Mediterranean architecture, they are spacious and stylish, providing a living room, bedroom, large bathroom. Each also has a generous shaded terrace, its own stretch of white sand and easy access to the water. In addition there are two even more luxurious bures - Vale Viqi and The Point, both of which offer extreme privacy, commanding views, dedicated staff and private plunge or swimming pools.

Vatulele has become famous for its food, which includes an eclectic variety of cuisines from around the world. Naturally there is an emphasis on seafood with other fresh ingredients are flown in daily from Australia and New Zealand. Meals are taken on the terrace of the central pavilion overlooking the lagoon or, at full moon, usually on the water's edge. A variety of private dining options may be arranged.

A variety of activities on offer include tennis, guided treks in the jungle, intimate picnics, 'Robinson Crusoe' island interludes or excursions to local villages. More importantly, the crystal waters of Vatulele invite every kind of water-based activity - the ocean here abounds with much sought-after sport fish, and the dive sites are exceptional. Sailing, game fishing, snorkelling and diving are a highlight here, and this is the only five-star island resort in Fiji with a PADI Golden Palm dive facility and resident instructors.
