The Caribbean
The Caribbean Sea covers more than one million square miles and its islands stretch from Grand Bahama in the north to Trinidad in the south. Famous for their lush landscapes, white beaches, calm turquoise waters and year round sunshine, each island has a character of its own - from the simple and relaxed, to the chic and sophisticated.
The warm waters of the Caribbean Sea are the setting for a marine landscape of breathtaking beauty, making it a must-see destination for scuba diving enthusiasts. Waterskiing, jetskiing, windsurfng, kiteboarding and kayaking are just a few of the water sports available, whilst romantic sunset cruises or a day’s sailing, dropping anchor in an isolated bay to swim or enjoy a picnic lunch, can also be arranged.
The islands have some of the best fishing grounds in the world. Saltwater fishing for bonefish is popular as is deep-sea fishing for bluefish, swordfish, shark and marlin.
There are numerous Championship golf courses throughout the islands. Sandy Lane on Barbados is perhaps one of the best known. The Four Seasons Resort on Nevis has a course that is regarded as one of the fnest in the Caribbean whilst Tryall, the best course in Jamaica if not in the world, hosts the Johnny Walker Tournament and the Jamaica Classic Annual.
The islands are a nature lover’s dream with creatures, plants and landscapes unmatched in diversity and beauty. In relatively tiny Trinidad, you will fnd more bird species than in the whole of Canada. Hummingbirds – there are 15 species on that one island – are found as often in gardens as they are in the woods and forests. The numerous hiking trails are as diverse as the islands themselves. Guided trekking on horseback is also widely available.
Nightlife can be as sophisticated – a gourmet meal in an international restaurant followed by a visit to an island casino – or as relaxed – a drink in a rustic beach bar and a seafood barbecue – as you want it to be depending on which island you choose to stay on.
