Please find below a selection of the luxury Taj Safari lodges.
Baghvan, Pench
Baghvan is situated 1½ hours from Nagpur on the edge of the sprawling 757 sq km Pench National Park. This charming intimate lodge, set by a lovely stream and surrounded by forest, is the perfect place from which to explore the park, which has a wild variety of wildlife including tiger.
Recently rebuilt and refurbished, the lodge has just 12 individual rustic bungalow suites, each beautifully appointed in contemporary style, air-conditioned and with private covered roof terrace. The lodge also has cool, airy guest areas, verandas and a swimming pool. Activities focus on the park, with nature and bird watching walks or elephant and 4WD safaris, each accompanied by expert naturalists.
Banjaar Tola, Kanha
Lying along the banks of the Banjaar River in south-eastern Madhya Pradesh, and directly overlooking the Kanha National Park, Banjaar Tola is Taj Safari's third jungle safari lodge. It has two elegant camps providing a luxurious base from which to explore the sal forests, swathes of bamboo and lush meadows of the park.
Each camp has nine spacious tented suites set on raised platforms, beautifully appointed utilising exquisite local textiles and a variety of woods. There is also a central guest dining area with decks overlooking the river, and a swimming pool. Twice daily 4X4 safaris and nature walks search out the park's diverse flora and fauna, including tiger, leopard, swamp deer and over 200 species of bird.
Mahua Kothi, Bandhavgarh
Nestled in 40 acres in the vicinity of the breathtaking Bandhavgarh National Park, Mahua Kothi was the first joint venture between Taj Hotels and CC Africa. Built on the site of the erstwhile Churhat Kothi tented camp, the lodge breaks new ground in India, providing an African-style safari experience. Accommodation is in 12 traditionally built Kutiyas (village huts), each beautifully furnished, with private courtyard. Guest areas are in the refurbished original homestead and there is a swimming pool in the grounds. Activities here focus on the varied wildlife and flora of the park, which has the highest density of tigers in India, with twice-daily 4X4 safaris in the reserve, elephant safaris, and nature and bird watching walks with an expert naturalist. Visits to a traditional local village can also be arranged.
