Sometimes, when experienced travellers are gathered around a dinner table, the ‘where’ve-you-been-what-did-you-see’ chat can be quite competitive. Quietly dropping ‘Colombia’ into the conversation tends to stop everyone in their tracks.

Then show them the photographs. The astounding desert landscapes, the rugged but beautiful mountains, Tayrona National Park, the fantastic Easter parades in Bogota and the carnival in Barranquila.
