The Beagle

The Beagle

The Beagle is named after HMS Beagle in which Charles Darwin made his famous voyage that took him to the Galapagos Islands and later, based on his findings in this extraordinary archipelago, wrote his theory on evolution.

An elegant, steel-hulled brigantine schooner with teak decks and wooden interiors, The Beagle was built in the Woolwich dockyards in the 1970's.  Passengers are accommodated in seven comfortable air-conditioned cabins, six with double lower/single upper berths and one with single lower/single upper berths. All cabins have en suite facilities and generous storage space. Deck and aft sitting areas are equally generous and are covered by awnings so that you can enjoy the cruise in the open air and observe the wildlife of the Galapagos while shaded from the tropical sun. Meals are served either in the saloon mid-ships or on the aft deck, and are varied to include local specialities and fresh seafood. There is also a small bar and library with reference books on board.

The Beagle, GalapagosSeal, Galapagos

The Beagle is owned and operated by our partners in the Galapagos, Augusto Cruz and Georgina Marten. Augusto was born on the island of Floreana to the south of the Galapagos archipelago and, together with Georgina, has been working in the islands since the early 1980's.  The Beagle is their third boat and over the years they have developed an enviable reputation for their unique onboard blend of Ecuadorian hospitality and English attention to detail.

The Beagle carries a crew of six, including an experienced skipper, skilled chef and bi-lingual naturalist guide, who will ensure that your voyage is as comfortable and memorable as possible. Indeed, the standards of guiding, cuisine and personal service are, in our opinion, the benchmark for all other Galapagos outfits. The Beagle has also been awarded the 'Smart Voyager' certificate for her adherence to sound conservation practices.
