Biras Creek, British Virgin Islands

Biras Creek, British Virgin Islands

Guests can only arrive at the Biras Creek hotel, in the British Virgin Islands, by boat or by helicopter. Inevitably, they find leaving this unique hideaway much more difficult.

Sitting in glorious isolation on a rolling, 140-acre peninsula jutting out from Virgin Gorda’s snaking coastline, Biras Creek gives the impression of being an island in itself.

It’s an idea that is aided and abetted by the surrounding seas. On one side is the formidable Atlantic, on another is the inviting Caribbean and on a third are the blue waters of North Sound.

Making the most of the commanding situation is a stone castle that was once a fortified home. Today it is an altogether more welcoming place; it is the heart of Biras Creek’s exceptional hotel. One of the finest hotels in the British Virgin Islands.

There are 31 wonderful guest suites, either scattered above the shoreline or found nestling in the tropical gardens. Their amenities include ‘natural’ outdoor showers, 300 thread-count cotton bed linen and iHome players. The aptly named Grand and Premier  Suites include their own private plunge pools.

But Biras Creek is as much about enjoying the unspoiled ‘cast-away’ surroundings as being pampered. Yes, there is a beautiful spa, swimming pool and facilities for tennis. And guests are treated to some truly exquisite cuisine in the elegant restaurant. But perhaps the most captivating aspects of Biras Creek are its day sailing cruises, its walks and its bike rides around the staggeringly beautiful ‘island’ peninsula.
