The first stop on your Ultimate tour of Zambia is the Lower Zambezi National Park. Your lodge faces an open floodplain and riverine forest that attracts plenty of wildlife throughout the dry season.
Sprawling along the northern banks of the Zambezi River, the Lower Zambezi National Park is a truly picturesque wilderness made up of oxbow lagoons, lush miombo woodland, savannah, grassland and patches of ebony and fig trees. Declared a national park in 1983, the Lower Zambezi protects a healthy population of game that includes lion, wild dog, buffalo, elephant, zebra, wildebeest and various antelope species. The river is full of hippo and crocodile, whilst the trees are a popular haunt for leopards. The park’s birdlife is equally rich – nearly 400 different species have been recorded here including eagles, kingfishers, herons, ospreys, storks and bee-eaters.
Activities within the park are varied and include bush walks, game drives, canoeing, fishing and boating along the Zambezi.
