Kyaninga Lodge near Kibale National Park

A fabulous, timber lodge featuring luxurious individual cottages with ‘witch’s hat’ thatched roofs, overlooking Lake Kyaninga. But the real magic of the lodge lies in the surrounding forest.

Your guide waves his hand, palm down. It’s a sign to be very quiet. He points upwards, and there they are – wild chimpanzees, staring down from the treetops. The theory of evolution is suddenly crystalized in that one moment. But that is not the only revelation you’ll experience in the forest that surrounds Kyaninga Lodge. You’ll see leopards and buffalo, rare forest elephants and giant hogs. Plus half a dozen types of deer and over 300 different species of birds – several of them endemic to this region.

And monkeys. As well as a population of 1500 chimps, there are red colobus, olive baboons, mangabey, blue monkeys and bush babies. So if you want to ‘visit the ancestors’ make Kyaninga Lodge part of your luxury, tailor-made holiday to Uganda.

  • What was particularly impressive was the way in which Catherine listened to what we like to do and combined all of this in a destination we would not have considered - a truly terrific effort.
