Arrive in Nairobi, Kenya’s bustling capital, where you will be met and transferred to your modern and inviting hotel. Set conveniently close to Wilson Airport, Tamarind Tree is the ideal place to relax before setting off on safari.
Stay: One night at the Tamarind Tree Hotel – bed & breakfast
Today you will be transferred to the Kicheche Laikipia in Laikipia’s Ol Pejeta Conservancy. An uncrowded, 90,000-acre wilderness in the foothills of Mount Kenya, Ol Pejeta is home to the country’s largest population of black rhino, an abundance of plains game and predators that include lion, leopard, spotted hyena and cheetah.
In addition to day and night game drives, you’ll fill your days with interpretive bush walks, lion tracking and mountain biking – plus canoeing on the small lake in front of camp whose shores are visited by a variety of wildlife. You’ll also be offered one complimentary conservation experience – choose from a visit to the Endangered Species Enclosure (home to the world’s last remaining northern white rhinos), interacting with anti-poaching dog keepers or a behind-the-scenes tour of the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary.
Stay: Three nights at Kicheche Laikipia – full board
Your next destination is one of Kicheche’s classic tented camps in either the Mara North or Mara Naboisho Conservancy. Neighbouring the famous Masai Mara Game Reserve, both are low in tourists and abundant in wildlife.
Game viewing starts right outside your tent, but you’ll also venture on morning, afternoon and night game drives in customized 4WD safari vehicles. Expert guides will take you in search of elephant, buffalo, cheetah, lion, leopard and waterbuck, and help you to capture some fabulous photographs along the way. Insightful walks in the company of interpretive guides will also teach you how to identity leopard spoor or signs of recent migration activity. Bird watching and hot air ballooning are other exciting activities on the menu, as well as sleep-outs in the bush and visits to local Masai villages.
Stay: Three nights at Kicheche Mara or Kicheche Valley – full board
Today you’ll fly back to Nairobi to continue your onward journey home.
