This delightful winter cruise on the Danube aboard the elegant and luxury river vessel MS Amadeus Queen visits the best of the Christmas Markets, sleepy towns and riverscapes. The cruise encompasses not only the history, culture, food, and wine but also attractive villages, proud castles, impressive churches and wonderful traditions of the pre-Christmas period.
Our voyage begins in Vienna, city of the Habsburgs and heart of their Empire, where we explore the sights including the magnificent Hofburg and its Imperial treasures and enjoy the Christmas Market at Schönbrunn Palace.
We continue to the UNESCO World Natural Heritage and wine region of Wachau where we visit the spectacular Benedictine abbey at Melk and the charming riverside town of Dürnstein before continuing to Passau, also known as the “City of Three Rivers”, situated at the confluence of the Danube, Inn and Ilz Rivers, with its traditional Christmas market in front of the spectacular St Stephen’s Cathedral.
We then sail on to Regensburgh where we visit the most beautiful Christmas market in Bavaria at the Thurn and Taxis Castle of Regensburg before ending our journey in the historic town of Nuremberg, famous for its imperial castle, walled Old Town and gingerbread.
It promises to be a delightful festive journey, complemented by an inspiring array of shore excursions and captivating lectures from Douglas Skeggs.
