ABOUT THE TOUR
This tour embodies the very essence of historic Vienna, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, encompassing the magnificent art collections and the unrivalled acquisitions of the Habsburg Emperors who over six centuries made Vienna one of Europe’s most important cities. Austria had long been their home, yet the dynasty acquired land throughout Europe, partly through conquest but more shrewdly through dynastic connections and inheritance. After repelling the Ottoman sieges in the 16th and 17th centuries. Vienna flourished into a golden age of superb Baroque architecture and the city became a global centre for the arts and music.
We explore the city’s superb artistic heritage, from the Old Masters of the Kunsthistorisches Museum to the late-19th and early-20th century masterpieces housed in the Baroque Belvedere Palace. We visit the impressive Imperial Library and see the unique works of art at the Liechtenstein City Palace.
There will be the option to hear Mass sung by the Vienna Boys’ choir at the Imperial Chapel and to attend an opera performance at the Wiener Staatsoper or a concert at any of the renowned concert halls. There is also the option to visit the city’s Christmas Markets including the most famous Rathausplatz Chriskindlmarkt.
Please note there will a substantial amount of walking and a certain level of fitness and mobility is required on this tour.
