On this four-day itinerary in the vast Gonarezhou National Park, you can expect a truly authentic safari experience in one of Africa’s most pristine wilderness areas.

You’ll be staying at Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge in south-eastern Zimbabwe, set high atop the cliffs, looking down on the Save River. Here, on the edge of Gonarezhou, Zimbabwe’s second largest National Park, you will truly feel part of the untamed Africa. The area is dominated by the majestic Chilojo Cliffs, which form an impressive backdrop to the meandering Runde River.

Here people are amongst the rarest of creatures and big game abounds. Game drives and walks led by passionate guides will bring you in close proximity with lions, buffalo, hippo and giraffe, not to mention the resident elephants that roam the park in staggering numbers.

A light aircraft will take you to Gonarezhou, where you will be warmly met by your guide and taken to Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge. Perched on the edge of the park with a beautiful view overlooking the Save river, you can stand on the viewing deck and watch wildlife basking in the waters below.

Gonarezhou holds the title as the second largest park in the country, covering over 5,000 square kilometres. It sits on Zimbabwe’s south-eastern border with Mozambique, and though often-forgotten, it is one of the last great pristine wildernesses in Africa. Here you will find a large variety of habitats and incredibly diverse scenery, featuring three great rivers and the beautiful Chilojo Cliffs.

Lions, cheetah, wild dogs, hyena, buffalo, hippo and giraffe can all be seen within the boundaries of Gonarezhou, but this country is known, first and foremost, as the Land of the Elephant. These massive, intelligent creatures give their name to the park and can be found here in their thousands. Experienced and enthusiastic guides, whose passion for the African bush has been internationally recognised, only enhance your safari experience.

You’ll cross the river to enjoy game drives and walks in the park, but you can also embark on excursions to the Chilojo Cliffs, the Tembwehata Water Pan or the Chivilila Falls. A cultural visit to a Mahenye Village is also on offer.

Stay: Four nights in a double room at Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge
