REMOTE AND REWARDING

Listed as a World Heritage Site, Kaziranga National Park is one of India’s most remote but rewarding wildlife destinations. The park is situated in the state of Assam on the flood plains of the Brahmaputra, and has been described as a biodiversity hotspot thanks to the incredible variety of wildlife supported here.

The park’s mixed habitats provide shelter to wild buffalo, elephants, leopards, otters, Ganges dolphin, swamp deer, golden langurs and hundreds of birds including the great hornbill and black necked crane. Reptiles include the rare assam roofed turtle and Indian python. The park was declared a Tiger Reserve back in 2006 and boasts the highest density of tigers in India – although the tall grass and thick jungle foliage can make them harder to spot. Kaziranga’s biggest draw is the Indian one-horned rhinoceros, with two-thirds of the world’s total population to be found here. The park itself is extremely picturesque with a landscape defined by dense forests, marshes and rolling grassland, and traversed by four major rivers including the mighty Brahmaputra. Safaris are conducted through this lush wilderness by experienced naturalist guides, who will take you in search of the park’s wonderful wildlife on river excursions and game drives.
