Masai Mara Luxury Safaris

A true bucket list experience

A safari in the Masai Mara National Reserve is a true bucket list experience. The levels of wildlife in this region are astonishing, and include the largest population of lion in Kenya and all the Big Five. It’s also home to one of nature’s most remarkable events – the Great Migration.

Many visitors to the Masai Mara come to witness the annual Great Migration, which usually occurs in Kenya between July and October. This incredible natural event sees over two million wildebeest, alongside herds of zebra and antelope, flood the plains of the Mara from Tanzania’s Serengeti in a constant search of fresher pastures. The herds race across the plains and make dramatic river crossings, battling through the perilous waters of the Mara River.

The reserve itself gets very busy, particularly in peak season with plenty of other safari vehicles and overland trucks, so to avoid large crowds we recommend one of the private conservancies just outside the main reserve that have tighter controls over visitor numbers. This way you can enjoy the region’s prolific wildlife – and get a front row view of the migration – whilst minimising the level of crowding.

Set within a natural playground of rolling grasslands, acacia trees and riverine forest, the Masai Mara offers a wildlife experience like no other. As well as being a top reserve to track the big cats, visitors to the Mara can encounter spotted hyenas, giraffes, gazelles, elephants, buffalo, black rhino and much more. Bird watching is also very rewarding, with approximately 450 different species sighted from hornbills to long-crested eagles.

If you’re looking for a unique way to witness the migration, why not opt for a hot air balloon safari which will give you a stunning view over the plains.
