The land holds treasures too. Take an excursion to the lush Tangkoko National Park to see the world’s smallest primate, the spectral tarsier, and the equally rare crested black macaque. Much easier to see on your safari will be black crested macaques, hornbills, kus kus and maleo birds, as well as a huge variety of indigenous plants and trees.

Those interested in the local culture can take trips to the Minahasa Highlands to tour through towns like Tomohon, with its charming markets, and Wolan Village; a centre of traditional pottery production. The countryside around Lake Linow and Tondano is beautiful, and home to a large variety of birds. Ancient stone graves and a megalithic stone, a local museum and a batik factory tour complete your insight into the history and modern-day culture of the region.

    • What was particularly impressive was the way in which Catherine listened to what we like to do and combined all of this in a destination we would not have considered - a truly terrific effort.
