Buenos Aires and the Pampas

Argentina's bustling capital and the great wilderness of Pampas steeped in Gaucho culture

Argentina’s capital, Buenos Aires, charms with its European flair, beautiful architecture, irresistible cuisine and electric nightlife. Meanwhile in the surrounding Pampas you’ll find a great wilderness steeped in Gaucho culture and dotted with quiet towns and traditional estancias.

Dubbed the ‘Paris of South America’, Buenos Aires is a sophisticated city filled with fascinating contrasts.

Take a walk through the smart Recoleta district to browse its stylish shops, chic galleries and upmarket restaurants where you can dine on the city’s world-famous steaks. Continue your tour in historic San Telmo to explore its bustling Sunday market, then onto La Boca to discover vibrant colourful buildings and characterful streets. You’ll also have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the city’s vibrant, Latin American nightlife and watch master classes in the art of the tango.

By contrast, country life is very much in full swing in the fertile, sweeping pampas that surround the city. This flat, rolling land is known as the origin of the Gaucho tradition, and still retains much of its history and culture with graceful country houses and local gauchos rounding up cattle.

Staying in a traditional estancia you will have the chance to experience the rural way of life whilst enjoying the warm hospitality of your hosts. Your time here could be a blend of relaxation and adventure, with plenty of opportunities to explore the land on horseback or on foot.
