Clos Apalta Residence is a private retreat set within the Apalta Valley in Chile’s Colchagua wine region, around a two-hour drive from Santiago. Arriving through vineyards and wooded hills, the mood is quiet and residential, with just ten rooms spread across the hillside and designed to blend into the landscape. As a Relais & Châteaux property since 2011, it combines the warmth of a family home with a high standard of gastronomy and service.
Accommodation is limited to six Villas and four Casitas, each created as an intimate space for two guests. There is a strong emphasis on space, light and privacy, with large windows framing vineyard and valley views, private terraces and gardens, and fireplaces for cooler evenings. Villas include a private plunge pool, while both categories offer refined, understated comforts including L’Occitane amenities, Nespresso and tea, air conditioning, and separate bathtubs and showers.
Life here is shaped around the estate. The gravitational Clos Apalta winery sits nearby, and guests can explore its multi-level design on cellar tours, before joining tastings led by the team. Days can be as active or unhurried as you like, from self-guided trails through the vineyards and native forest to cycling routes, tennis, and birdwatching with a curated map. At the residence lodge, an outdoor pool looks across the valley in summer, with a sauna and steam bath for year-round unwinding.
Dining is deeply personal. The restaurant operates with a set menu, curated by the chef and adapted to each guest’s dietary requirements and preferences, with reservations recommended in advance. For a more immersive evening, private dinners can be arranged either at the residence mirador during spring and summer, or inside the winery with iconic wine pairings in peak season.
