For rather less than might be expected you could find yourself experiencing the Peruvian heritage, the outstanding colonial architecture, the culinary fusion and the lively contemporary arts scene of Lima.
Step further back in time by exploring the Sacred Valley of the Incas, staying at the brand new Explora Valle Sagrado (opening July 2016) in the heart of the Sacred Valley and discover its spectacular Inca heritage.
And all the time you’ll be staying in hotels that have been created from, or stand at the centre of, original historic buildings.
Arrive in Lima in the early evening to be met and taken to your hotel. You’ll be staying in an original colonial-style building at the heart of Lima’s most happening district, so you’ll be able to throw yourself into the city’s energetic nightlife, and cultural and artistic scene. Take a half day city tour and you’ll see the architectural heritage and life of the city – as well as visiting its famous Surquillo market.
Stay: Two nights in a studio room at the renowned B Arts Boutique Hotel.
The Sacred Valley
Time to explore the heartland of the Inca Empire. The Valle Sagrado is lined by the vertical slopes of the Andes, and criss-crossed by the lazy waters of the Urubamba River, and is so beautiful, so fertile, yet so inaccessible that the Incas regarded it as sacred. Expert guides will take you on a choice of 20 different exploration routes, giving you a superb insight into the untamed wildness, the nature and the natural history of the Andean region, as well as the civilisation of the Incas. From here you may also visit Machu Picchu, Ollantaytambo, Zapacto, Maras, Quimsacocha, Pisac and Moray.
Stay: Four nights in a standard room at the Explora Valle Sagrado.
Today you move to Cusco to experience the life and heritage of this ancient city. In fact, you’ll be staying in a boutique hotel that has been created from a period private residence dating back to Cusco’s pre-Conquest era. So you’ll have ample opportunity to take a guided tour of sites like the Colonial Santo Domingo Convent – built over the original Inca Koricancha Temple dedicated to the sun god – as well as the Plaza de Armas and the monumental cathedral. You’ll also be taken on a tour of the fabulous Inca ruins that stand beyond Cusco; including the atmospheric temple and amphitheatre of Kenko, the magnificent Red Fortress of Puca Pucara and the ancient cultural centre of Sacsayhuman.
Stay: Three nights in a patio suite in the Inkaterra La Casona.
