On this journey you will cruise the Mekong from Thailand, straight into Laos, before ending in Siem Reap with an exploration of the mysterious temples of Angkor Wat.
Your journey through Laos and Cambodia will begin in Thailand, in Chiang Rai. Enjoy two blissful nights at the Anantara Golden Triangle Resort, which is located on a ridge, overlooking where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar converge.
Next you will board a two-day Luang Say Cruise on the Mekong heading downstream to Pakbeng where you overnight at a rustic lodge overlooking the Mekong. Whilst drifting on the Mekong the next day you will enjoy the pasing scenery, from small riverside villages to rolling hills, before embarking at Pak Ou village at the mouth of the Nam Ou River, where you will visit the Tam Thing Caves of a Thousand Buddhas.
Upon arrival in Luang Prabang you will stay at the Hotel Sofitel - a unique, boutique resort that is a World Heritage treasure in a colonial style. Once a Governor’s mansion, the century old structure has been restored to luxury. Today, 25 spacious Suites await, each with a walled rear garden and a terrace overlooking a sunny courtyard; some with their own expansive and very private swimming pools. Whilst in Luang Prabang you will have the opportunity to explore the town itself, with opportunities to visit a dawn gathering of saffron-robed monks, the former Royal Palace which is home to the most sacred Buddha image in Laos, Wat Xiengthong, the 16th century temple which is the only temple in Luang Prabang that was neither razed by the Chinese or over restored, and the spectacular Kuangsi Waterfall.
Next you will fly to Southern Laos, where you will stay at La Folie Lodge on the peaceful island of Done Daeng. The lodge sits along the Mekong River, on a beach facing the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Wat Phou. Whilst there, you will visit Si Phan Don, otherwise known as 4000 Islands. In dry season, the waters recede and leave behind thousands of islets. Explore the area’s French Colonial past, and visit the largest water fall in South-East Asia.
Finally you will fly to Siem Reap, where you will stay at the Heritage Suites. Quietly nestled in central Siem Reap, this romantic luxury hide away is an exquisite boutique hotel located just a 3 minutes tuk tuk ride from downtown Siem Reap and a 10 minute ride from Angkor Wat temples and their wonders. Whilst in Siam Reap you will visit the small, but magnificent, Banteay Srei temple, the picturesque Ta Prohm temple that remains overgrown, an oddly haunting and exotic scene, and the floating village of Mechrey, a lesser visited part of Tonle Sap Lake.
The highlight of your time in Siem Reap will of course be a visit to Angkor Wat - one of the world's most impressive ruins. You will visit at sunset, to enjoy illuminated views of the intricately carved ruins and the imposing 50-tower temple of Angkor Thom. Exploring these enchanting ruins provides a fitting end to your journey through Indochina.
