London – Singapore - Yogyakarta
Your morning flight from London Heathrow takes you to Singapore to meet your connecting flight to Yogyakarta, where you’ll be welcomed and driven to your luxurious hotel. You’ll be staying in a resort that sits in a natural amphitheatre formed by the dramatic limestone Menoreh Hills – a perfect setting for exploring Borobudor, one of the Far East’s most breath-taking temple complexes. On your guided tour you’ll climb a series of tiers, circular terraces and Buddhist stupas dating back as far as the 7th or 8th century and hewn from local volcanic rock.
Java’s spiritual centre also presents you with a choice. You can explore the peaks and valleys of the Menoreh Hills and Prambanan Valley, tour the temples of Kedu, visit traditional villages to watch local craftsmen at work, immerse yourself in the colour of Muntilan and Borobudur markets, have your palm read or even meditate in a nearby monastery.
Stay: Three nights in a garden suite at the Amanjiwo Hotel.
From Java you’ll fly to Bali, where you’ll experience the serene temples and picturesque town of Ubud. You’ll be staying in a tranquil hotel just 10 minutes from the town’s creative heart, so you’ll be able to enjoy Ubud’s fantastic temples, historic covered market, art galleries and silversmith studios. Cycle into town and you can witness local dancing, processions and religious ceremonies, but you can also choose to trek along the Ayung River or Camphuhan, explore the picture postcard tiered rice terraces, tour the local market or enjoy a private Balinese dance class.
Stay: Three nights in a village suite at the Amandari Hotel.
A drive through ever-changing scenery takes you from Ubud back to Denpasar Airport to catch your 50 minute flight to Sumbawa Besar. Then you board a speedboat to be whisked across an azure sea to Mayo Island. An exclusive jungle tent with teak floors, air conditioning and an open air pavilion overlooking the sea awaits you on this achingly beautiful island.
You’ll spend the next four days soaking up the sun on a fine beach, diving to an undersea wonderworld, exploring hidden coral coves, kayaking, windsurfing and dining on wonderful Indonesian cuisine – when you’re not wandering through groves of fig, tamarind and banyan trees or watching the antics of the macaques, wild boars, deer and birds in the jungle reserve.
Stay: Four nights in a jungle tent at Amanwana.
Another speedboat ride returns you to Sumbawa Besar to meet your flight back to Denpasar. Fitting for a trip entitled Indulgent Indonesia your itinerary culminates in a couple of days of sheer luxury. And there is no place better for indulgence Indonesian-style than Jimbaran Puri. This marvellous waterside resort features a pool the size of a lake – built from Javanese stone – an unrivalled beach and acres of tropical gardens.
And if your camera’s memory isn’t already full you can take a tour of the photogenic attractions nearby – the local fish market, for example.
Stay: Two nights in a deluxe pool villa at Belmond Jimbaran Puri.
