There is not really a right or wrong time to visit Vietnam. The country has three different micro climates which makes for a fabulous year-round destination. That said, the months between November and April are considered prime time to visit as rainfall is scarce, so the beautiful beaches of Mui Ne, Con Dao and Nha Trang can be enjoyed to full advantage.

When the rain does arrive during the rest of the year, the weather in central Vietnam remains pretty hot and dry, especially between June and September when temperatures can rise to the mid-30°Cs. Hue is often cooler than Hoi An, particularly at the start of the year.

If your travel plans include the UNESCO-sponsored Halong Bay, we recommend travelling in March or April when there’s minimal haze to obscure the beautiful scenery. The caves of Phong Nha are at their best between February and August, whilst September to November provide the best conditions for trekking in Sapa. The wetter months between October and May lend themselves well for river cruises on the mighty Mekong Delta.
