Lazy afternoons can be spent fishing for bream in one of the many surrounding waterways, or gliding along in a traditional mokoro canoe. The birding is outstanding, and nature walks are great for getting up close to animals like the rare red lechwe, especially when in the company of Xugana’s experienced guides.

The lodge itself is small, housing just 16 guests in raised reed-and-thatch chalets – each with a private viewing deck designed to drink in the glorious delta views. The lounge, bar and dining areas are open-sided and set back under a beautiful canopy of ebony and mangosteen trees. The swimming pool lies in mature gardens at the heart of the island, making it the perfect place to retreat to during the heat of the day.

“EXCEPTIONAL SUPPORT FOR A FIRST SOLO ADVENTURE”

Planning my first solo trip felt like a big step, but The Ultimate Travel Company made it easy from the outset. I reached out over a year in advance, and Rob Kent quickly put together a thoughtful itinerary based on exactly what I was looking for, securing great flights and always being available to talk things through. Everything ran smoothly and I felt looked after every step of the way. The accommodation in Japan, Fiji and Tahiti was excellent and the experiences unforgettable.
