DISCOVER THE MAGIC OF LAKE MALAWI
It may not be Africa’s most obvious holiday destination, but this small landlocked country contains the beautiful Lake Malawi, 10 national parks and wildlife reserves, enchanting tea estates and the dramatic Mount Mulanje.
The enormous Lake Malawi is the star attraction, and the most convenient spot for some post-safari R&R. Filling a gigantic rift valley with its sparklingly clear waters, this inland sea offers divers over 600 species of fish and awe-inspiring underwater rock formations.
Not to mention a huge variety of water sports. The golden beaches on Likoma Island are unrivalled, and you can snorkel right from the steps of your room.
Back on dry land, wildlife lovers can immerse themselves in Liwonde National Park with its impressive population of elephants, crocodiles and hippos. Set out on a bird-watching safari and see how many of Malawi’s 650 indigenous and visiting species you can spot. Majete Wildlife Reserve is equally flourishing, with all members of the Big Five roaming its riverine forest and miombo woodlands.
We’d also recommend venturing down to the southern reaches of the country where you can go trekking on Mount Mulanje and visit the old colonial capital of Zomba. Don’t miss out on a visit to the Thyolo region where you can stay on a family-owned tea estate and explore walking trails through the tranquil tea fields.
