BEAUTIFUL SHIRE HIGHLANDS

Steeped in old-world charm, the stately, colonial Huntington House finds itself enclosed by rolling hills, verdant tea plantations and the beautiful Shire Highlands in southern Malawi.

Originally built in the 1920s by Maclean Kay and still run by members of the same family, Huntingdon House offers a nostalgic glimpse into a bygone era. The atmosphere is that of a ‘home away from home’, with just five spacious ensuite rooms ensuring a personal experience for every guest.

Named and uniquely decorated after their original role in the household (Mother’s Room, The Nursery, The Chapel etc.) each room is delightfully light and airy with four-poster beds, high ceilings and antique furniture. The private patios, meanwhile, provide the perfect spot for a cup of tea in the morning.

Days on the Satemwa Tea Estate, which produces some of the country’s finest teas, are entirely at your leisure. Tea tastings are naturally on the menu, as are guided walks through Satemwa’s wild coffee fields, hiking to nearby streams and mountain biking up and down nearby dirt roads. The truly adventurous may want to challenge the 3,000m summit of Mt Mulanje, whilst birders can go in search of the endangered Thyolo Alethe. You can even play a round of croquet or boulle on the manicured lawns.

“FAULTLESS AND FUN”
We’ve just returned from a Danube cruise with Douglas Skeggs and Joanna Worsley, with a few days in Vienna beforehand – all brilliantly overseen by Emily. From meet and greet at the airport to every detail on board the Amadeus Cara, the organisation was seamless. We’re already looking forward to our next Escorted Tour with The Ultimate Travel Company.

“INDIA AT ITS MOST INCREDIBLE”
Unbelievably brilliant from start to finish. The Ultimate Travel Company gave us complete flexibility while tailoring the trip to our personal preferences. Communication was excellent throughout, and the in-country team in India was super-efficient at every stage. The quality of the experience was exceptional – and the value for money, remarkable. From expert naturalists to thrilling wildlife encounters (tigers, leopards, 140 species of birds), awe-inspiring temples, the Taj Mahal, scenic walks and warm, welcoming people – not to mention the fantastic curry – it was a truly superb holiday. “Ultimate” really is “The Ultimate Travel Company”!

“A TRUSTED CHOICE EVERY TIME”
From start to finish, everything is handled with care and attention, and nothing ever feels like too much trouble. As a solo traveller, I appreciate the consistency- while there is a supplement, the quality of accommodation is never compromised. The escorted tours suit me perfectly, with excellent hotels, knowledgeable guides and the flexibility to opt in or out of the daily programme. With a relaxed pace and time to properly enjoy each destination, it all adds up to a far better experience. While they may be a little more than some group holidays, the smaller, friendly groups and overall quality make it well worth it.
