A CHARMING BEACH HOLIDAY ON KENYA’S NORTHERN COAST
Nestled away on Kenya’s quiet northern coast on the tip of Manda Island lies the small, privately-owned lodge of Manda Bay. With its paradisal beachfront location, Manda Bay is the ideal destination for a luxury beach holiday or as a way of unwinding after a Kenyan safari adventure.
Surrounded by empty beaches and woodland in the Lamu Archipelago, this secluded retreat is perfect for families or couples searching for simple luxury combined with the exclusivity of a desert island setting. Constructed in the traditional coastal style, complete with palm thatched roofs, the rooms all have direct access to the beach and the beautiful sweep of Manda Bay.
Each of the 22 rooms have been designed with simplicity in mind, featuring open-air windows without shutters or glass, palm-woven matting floors, and a private verandah with chairs and a swing bed. The 11 Beachfront Rooms are situated on the seawall, and are equipped with either a king-size or two twin beds, and room for one, two or three extra cot beds for children if required. The five Palm Rooms are set slightly further back from the beach, with one room being a family cottage with an attached extra room and bathroom. For smaller rooms, there are also six Garden Rooms situated in the middle of the resort.
The bay’s reef-protected waters and sheltered mangrove creeks make for a water sport paradise. Sailing, windsurfing, kite surfing and water-skiing are all available, while the resort’s fleet of motorboats can take you bird watching and deep-sea fishing. Humpback whales can be spotted in October and dolphins from December to March.
Manda Bay combines bush and beach experiences. While soft yellow sand and coconut palms surround the lodge, the bush behind the resort is dry country, providing a haven for the local wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for a variety of unique birds alongside mongoose, civet cat, porcupine, genet, dik-dik, buffalo and bushbuck.
