ABOUT THE ITINERARY
Your Zambia Experience begins at Victoria Falls – a curtain of water so magnificent it’s ranked amongst the Seven Natural Wonders of the World – and continues to the Lower Zambezi National Park. Your safari begins in this pristine and picturesque wilderness where activities include canoeing along the mighty Zambezi.
You’ll then fly to the acclaimed South Luangwa National Park where the varied terrain is game-rich and ideal for bush walks. Finally you’ll journey to the uncharted wilderness of Kafue and the Busanga Plains which are home to a huge variety of plains game and many predators. LIVINGSTONE
In Livingstone, you’ll be met and transferred by road and boat to Sindabezi Island Camp.
Set in an area of spectacular natural beauty, the Victoria Falls is a truly magnificent sight measuring over 1,000 metres wide. Sindabezi Island, your base for excursions, sits on its own private island on the Zambezi River. As well as breathtaking visits of the falls you’ll be able to enjoy romantic sunset cruises, canoeing, museum tours and guided excursions within the wildlife-rich Mosi-oa-Tunya Game Park. For an insight into local Zambian life, you can take a tour of the local village, school and market place.
Stay: Two nights in an open-sided thatched chalet at Sindabezi Island – full board
LOWER ZAMBEZI NATIONAL PARK
A boat and road transfer from Livingstone, followed by scheduled light aircraft flight, brings you to your next destination in the magnificent Lower Zambezi National Park. You’ll be staying at an intimate safari camp on the banks of the Zambezi overlooking a series of channels and islands. Days are focused on non-motorised safari activities including incredible bush walks and leisurely canoe trips along the Zambezi River – both excellent ways of interacting with the local wildlife. You’ll also be able to enjoy day and night drives, a chance to get up close sightings of the park’s lions, leopards, African wild cats, buffalo and elephant.
Stay: Two nights in a double bush chalet at Old Mondoro – full board
SOUTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK
On day seven you’ll board a scheduled light aircraft flight from Jeki to Mfuwe. From there you’ll be transferred to Chindeni Bush Camp. The property is located on a permanent oxbow lagoon in the iconic South Luangwa National Park, Zambia’s most famous game reserve. Here, amongst a wilderness of 9,000 square kilometres, you’ll discover a stunning population of wildlife supported by the mighty Luangwa River. Bushbuck, lion and leopard can be seen in the areas of dense vegetation, whilst the lakes and river are favoured by elephant and hippo. Bird watchers should also look out for Lilian’s lovebirds and grey-headed parrots amongst the fruit of sausage trees. If you’re lucky you may even spot the elusive wild dog amongst many, many other species.
Stay: Two nights in a double tent at Chindeni Bush Camp – full board
SOUTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK
Staying in the South Luangwa, today you’ll make a game drive/walk transfer to Bilimumgwe Bush Camp. You now find yourself in a remote and truly unspoilt section of the park, an area perfectly suited for walking safaris. Being able to explore on your own two feet – just like the safaris of old – alongside a fully qualified guide who will reveal the secrets of the African bush, is nothing short of magical.
Stay: Two nights at Bilimungwe Bush Camp – full board
KAFUE NATIONAL PARK
Your last stop is the untrammelled wilderness of Kafue, reached by another scheduled light aircraft flight from Mfuwe. Within this huge national park you’ll be exploring the untouched Busanga Plains, arguably the best game-viewing area in all of Kafue. Predators abound in this immense, seasonal floodplain system dotted with ‘islands’ of wild date palms, sausage and fig trees.
Cheetah and leopard are often spotted, whilst lion, puku, waterbuck, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, red lechwe, buffalo and wildebeest are also likely to make an appearance on your game drives. In fact, Kafue boasts the largest mammal species diversity in the country with over 55 large mammal species alone. Keen birdwatchers will find nearly 500 different varieties to spot, including endemics like Chaplin’s barbet.
Stay: Three nights in a double tent at Busanga Camp – full board
