NATURAL WONDERS
If art and the love of good wine calls you, Nelson is your destination. But for nature walks, and romantic strolls along empty, golden beaches you’ll find Abel Tasman National Park is unrivalled. Exotic birds, of course, prefer Farewell Spit near Golden Ba
Quality wine certainly flows around Nelson. This rich, fertile area is firmly placed within the top 10 of wine producing regions in the whole of New Zealand. But it isn’t just the wine that attracts creative people. The region is the home of more working artists than anywhere else in the country, and it is easy to see why. The light is marvellous, the countryside is visually irresistible and the beaches are picture postcard perfect. So arts and crafts shops, long languid lunches and strolls on fine sand await if you make this area part of your luxury, tailor-made holiday to New Zealand.
You’ll also be putting a couple of impressive national parks on your agenda. Kahurangi offers you wildlife exploration, whilst Abel Tasman National Park features guided walks, and safaris in kayaks, or catamaran sailing. Or, if you’re after the ultimate holiday photographs, you can fly over the area in a helicopter. Almost as spectacular in its own way, is a different sort of flight. Head west to Golden Bay, then take a tour to Farewell Spit for a bird sanctuary with 90 assorted species wheeling in to the sand flats to feed at low tide.
