A MEMORABLE STAY IN THE CITY WHERE TIME STOOD STILL

Situated in front of the ferry dock of Andong’s 600-year-old Hahoe Folk Village, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, lies the tranquil and wondrous Rakkojae Hahoe Hanok Hotel. Surrounded by the winding waterways of the Nakdong River, the Hahoe Folk Village is renowned for its unique shape, which some say resembles a lotus flower floating on water. With a stay in one of Rakkojae’s hanoks or choga houses, guests are promised a chance to step back in time and immerse themselves in the essence of Hahoe Village, even within the premises of the hotel.

Rakkojae Hahoe Hanok Hotel is comprised of 20 hanok rooms spread across four choga houses and four additional hanoks in the Giwa Main Compex, each of which has been built to reflect the traditional architectural style of Korean palaces such as Changdeokgung Palace. Meticulously designed to showcase the spectacular scenery of Hahoe Village at every turn, the hanok rooms seamlessly blend the timeless charm of old Korea with a contemporary luxury, featuring ensuite bathrooms, ondol underfloor heating and traditional floor mattresses.

Wake up each day with a complimentary breakfast of either traditional Korean or Western cuisine, then spend your days wandering through the quiet lanes of the village to see the age-old Joseon-era architecture, meet the resident community, and visit the 650-year-old elm tree that sits in the heart of the village. The hotel is also home to a private wood-fired natural mud sauna, which is ideal for those looking to relax and rejuvinate. No visit to Hahoe Folk Village is complete without visiting the amphitheatre on a weekend afternoon and witnessing the Hahoe Byeolsingut Tallori mask dance, which is part ritualised drama and part slapstick comedy. Depending on when you plan your luxury holiday to South Korea, you may also be able to see the Seonyo Jukbul Nori fire festival.
