CHIKOKO TRAILS CAMPS, SOUTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK

BUILT WITHIN EBONY FORESTS

A rustic little camp in the north of the South Luangwa, Chikoko Trails Camps has earned a reputation for its unparalleled walking safaris.

With no roads or vehicles in sight, Chikoko is a true walking camp nestled in among ebony trees on the edge of an extensive lagoon. Simple yet beautifully designed using reeds, wood and thatch, the accommodation comprises just three chalets raised on stilts to sit level with the surrounding tree canopy.

Hammocks and cushions invite an afternoon siesta, while delicious meals are prepared from the simplest of bush kitchens.

Often combined with its sister properties Big Lagoon and Tafika Camp, a stay at Chikoko is a chance to experience the African bush at its most adventurous and authentic. The wildlife in the area is superb – think elusive leopards and rare roan antelopes – and walking safaris are the only activity. Walks are conducted at a leisurely pace and in the company of some of the finest guides Africa has to offer. David Livingstone is said to have visited the area, and you’ll be able to follow in his footsteps as you are guided through the maze of animal footpaths.

“EXCEPTIONAL SUPPORT FOR A FIRST SOLO ADVENTURE”

Planning my first solo trip felt like a big step, but The Ultimate Travel Company made it easy from the outset. I reached out over a year in advance, and Rob Kent quickly put together a thoughtful itinerary based on exactly what I was looking for, securing great flights and always being available to talk things through. Everything ran smoothly and I felt looked after every step of the way. The accommodation in Japan, Fiji and Tahiti was excellent and the experiences unforgettable.
