The Battery occupies a red-brick former candy factory in the neighbourhood of Jackson Square. Occupying the top three floors of the building, the light-filled hotel rooms boast custom furnishings courtesy of interior designer Ken Fulk, and come decked out in top-of-the-range amenities. Bathrooms are all natural stone tile with huge Japanese soaking tubs and walk-in showers. In addition to 14 sumptuous suites, the hotel has a plush penthouse you can stay in, complete with a wraparound rooftop terrace.

Hotel guests are treated as ‘resident members’ throughout their stay, and enjoy access to the lively House Bar and the elegant Living Room restaurant. A secret door in the speakeasy-style Musto Bar leads to the Green Room where you can unwind on cushy sofas and try your hand on the acoustic guitars provided. Regular events, including talks and performances, are held here. You’ll find a fitness centre in the basement, complete with a small steam room, dry sauna and hot tub.

The Battery itself is within easy reach of buzzy neighbourhoods like Chinatown, North Beach and Fisherman’s Wharf.
