EXPLORA PATAGONIA NATIONAL PARK

DELVE INTO THE NATURAL WONDERS OF CHILEAN PATAGONIA

At the heart of the newly created Patagonia National Park in Aysén, this intimate lodge invites travellers into one of Chile’s most important rewilding projects.

The Aysén Region in northern Patagonia is one of Chile’s final frontiers, and provides the stunning backdrop for Explora’s newest, smallest property. Sustainably crafted from local, recycled materials on the floor of the Chacabuco Valley, it has the feel of a luxury mountain cabin with magnificent wooden carvings, hardwood floors and deep armchairs to sink into. The rooms are surrounded by views of the pampa and gardens, and offer deep rest after each day of exploration. Originally built by conservationists Kris and Doug Tompkins, Explora has kept the preservation of the landscape at the core of its operation.

Exceptional guiding and carefully planned, off-the-beaten-track excursions make it easy for guests to delve into the natural wonders of Chilean Patagonia. The hiking and biking trails are superb, taking in sparkling lakes, glaciated mountains, lenga forests and rivers. Guanacos wander freely around the lodge and condors swoop overhead, but you can also go looking for huemul deer, nandu and pumas. By night, the lodge offers a luxurious retreat to rest, refuel and share stories over delicious wine and food. Meals highlight gaucho culture and traditions, and are prepared from quality local ingredients.

We had a wonderful safari experience in South Luangwa, Zambia this September. Despite a few unexpected setbacks behind the scenes, everything ran seamlessly for us. Our driver and guide were outstanding, and the standard of accommodation was truly first class.

“FLAWLESS, AGAIN”
This is the third time I’ve used TUTC. The service, as before, was flawless. Aside from putting in place all the major details of a complex trip to Japan, Dan at TUTC nailed every detail: train tickets were for seats with large luggage space (very important in Japan, as we discovered); a mobile internet wifi was included; together with a pre-charged use-pretty-much-anywhere travel card (again, important – Japan has multiple transport companies). For any kind of complex trip I won’t go anywhere else.
