Previously owned by a spice merchant, the townhouse was transformed into a hotel to honour the Fort’s rich history and vibrant culture. The 17th century heritage building is comprised of 15 courtyard-facing rooms and three upper floor suites, each of which has a distinctly Middle Eastern interior and is equipped with comfortable four-poster king-size or twin beds and spacious en-suite bathrooms.
There are two types of courtyard-facing rooms: the Bazaar Bedrooms, which are light and contemporary, and shaded by fragrant Frangipani flowers and a mango tree, and the Banyan Bedrooms which are hidden away beneath the boughs of an enormous banyan tree and feature either a private balcony or terrace overlooking the quiet central courtyard.
The Upper Suites are the epitome of privacy and are equipped with a spacious living area and a terrace overlooking Galle Fort. If you are travelling on a family holiday to Sri Lanka, Fort Bazaar also has a split-level Upper Family Suite with a four-poster king-size bed, an open-plan lounge leading onto a private terrace and an upper level with two single beds.
Due to its ideal location, you can easily explore the galleries, shops and cafes of Galle Fort by foot or venture beyond to bathe on the spectacular beaches, surf in the Indian Ocean, embark on a whale-watching cruise or hop on a scenic bike ride across the beautiful paddy fields.
