FAIRMONT LE CHÂTEAU MONTEBELLO, QUEBEC

LOOKS GRAND BUT FEELS COSY

A former Canadian Pacific Railway hotel, Fairmont Le Château Montebello has been enticing guests for over 90 years with its rustic charm, warm French-Canadian hospitality and exquisite natural surroundings.

A stunning red cedar log structure with buildings dating back to 1930, the historic Fairmont Le Château looks grand but feels cosy. It sits on 300 bucolic acres overlooking the Ottawa River in Quebec, and was originally the retreat of the Seigniory Club which hosted the likes of Prince Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco. It opened to the public in 1970, and has grown to become one of the most popular resorts in Eastern Canada.

Each room is well appointed to offer the perfect indoor spot for relaxation, but it’s the opportunity for outdoor adventure that draws most visitors to this area. Summer welcomes activities like canoeing, swimming and croquet, whilst winter allows for enchanting recreational pursuits such as snowshoeing, ice skating and snowmobiling. Meanwhile, the more tepid temperatures of spring and autumn make the perfect conditions for hiking, biking, tennis and fishing. Between excursions, you can unwind with a drink by the towering three-story stone fireplace, dip into the huge pool or luxuriate in the spa.

“EVERY TRIP EXCELLENT – AND MORE TO COME”
I’ve been on several small group holidays with The Ultimate Travel Company and every one has been outstanding. My most recent trip in February was no exception – expertly organised, responsive to questions, and full of memorable experiences. The itineraries are well thought out, the hotels top-notch, and the group sizes just right. Their tour leaders are knowledgeable, supportive and great company. I haven’t looked elsewhere since discovering Ultimate – and I’m already planning my next.

“FLAWLESS, AGAIN”
This is the third time I’ve used TUTC. The service, as before, was flawless. Aside from putting in place all the major details of a complex trip to Japan, Dan at TUTC nailed every detail: train tickets were for seats with large luggage space (very important in Japan, as we discovered); a mobile internet wifi was included; together with a pre-charged use-pretty-much-anywhere travel card (again, important – Japan has multiple transport companies). For any kind of complex trip I won’t go anywhere else.
