Surama Village is a real Makushi community gathered into a traditional village and dedicated to sustainable eco-tourism; ensuring that the wonders you see as you explore the untouched rainforest and savannah are preserved for others to enjoy in the future.
And what wonders they are. Four different species of indigenous monkeys. Over 500 different varieties of noisy, spectacular – or rare and secretive – birds have been recorded here, 72 of them endemic to the Guyanan Shield. And then there are the giant anacondas, tapir, river otters, jaguar and capybara.
