Discover the crumbling remains of Wat Phu, an ancient hill-top temple complex dating back hundreds of years. Set amongst misty forested hills, these UNESCO-listed Khmer ruins are a real highlight.
For a taste of cooler climes, head to the Bolaven Plateau where you will find many of Laos’ tea and coffee plantations. Try a cup of the region’s finest brew and learn about the different ethnic groups that live here. The area is also famed for the spectacular Tad Fane waterfall with its dramatic 100 metre drop and scenic rainforest setting.
As you journey down the majestic Mekong you will find yourself in Si Phan Don, otherwise known as the 4,000 Islands. In the dry season, the waters recede and leave behind a sensational archipelago of islets. A region of endless photo opportunities, visitors to the islands can enjoy kayaking and boat cruises – look out for the rare Irrawaddy dolphin!
