Abu Camp, Okavango Delta

You wake just after sunrise and walk onto the observation deck of your on-stilts bush villa. You stretch in the cool morning air and, when you open your eyes a herd of elephants are casually sauntering up. This would be astonishing – even in an area like the Okavango, which has one of the densest populations of elephants in Africa – but at Abu Camp it’s an everyday occurrence. At Abu, you’ll form a relationship with the camp’s herd; you’ll recognise individuals, you’ll walk with the herd through the surrounding bush. You’ll join them at the watering hole and either watch or take part when they bathe. And they’ll take you on safari. Riding on an elephant really does give you a unique viewpoint from which to spot game!
