ZIMBABWE, AFRICA

ABOUT THE ITINERARY

Adrenaline junkies flock to Victoria Falls to bungee jump and white water raft, but you can also gaze upon Livingstone’s famous ‘Smoke That Thunders’ from a safe distance at the iconic Victoria Falls Hotel. After marvelling at the falls you’ll fly to Zimbabwe’s largest and most famous national park, Hwange, where you’ll be led by some of the best guides in Africa in search of the ‘big five’ amongst countless other animals.

Finally, you’ll escape to the wild and incredibly scenic Mana Pools, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and game rich paradise of floodplain, acacia grove and riverine forest nourished by the waters of the Lower Zambezi.

DAY 1-3

VICTORIA FALLS

Arriving in Zimbabwe, you’ll be met and transferred to your five-star hotel in the Victoria Falls National Park. You’ll find yourself spectacularly located within strolling distance of the famous site – known as Mosi-Oa-Tunya in local dialect; the ‘Smoke That Thunders’.

But even that name doesn’t prepare you for the powerful spectacle of hundreds of thousands of gallons of water pouring over the abyss; the noise, the clouds of spray, the dizzying heights and the magical rainbows. After visiting the falls, you can play a round of golf, enjoy a game drive or take a sunset cruise along the mighty Zambezi to see basking hippos and crocodiles.

Stay: Two nights in a deluxe stable wing at Victoria Falls Hotel – bed & breakfast

Camp Hwange, Hwange National Park
DAY 4-6

HWANGE NATIONAL PARK

Hwange, the largest national park in Zimbabwe, is your next port of call. You’ll spend three nights on a private concession where you can expect to meet with an array of wildlife. In the summer you’ll find an abundance of zebra, wildebeest and eland grazing across the wide open plains, whilst the winter months sees huge herds of elephants gathering around the waterholes to drink. Other species to look out for are buffalo, hyena, giraffe, lion, leopard, impala, reedbuck and waterbuck.

Activities at Little Makalolo include day and night game drives in purposely designed 4x4s as well as walking safaris and bird watching excursions. The lodge has its own log pile hide overlooking a busy waterhole where you can observe passing animals unobtrusively.

Stay: Three nights in a double tent at Little Makalolo – full board

John’s Camp, Mana Pools National Park
DAY 7-10

MANA POOLS NATIONAL PARK

A light aircraft now brings you to the remote Mana Pools National Park, situated on Zimbabwe’s northern border with Zambia. Set on the banks of the Zambezi River in the heart of the Zambezi Valley, the park enjoys World Heritage status and is regarded as one of Africa’s most beautiful game reserves.

The park is particularly known as a great walking destination, but game drives, fishing and bush sleep outs are also on the menu. During your stay you can expect to come across huge herds of African bull elephants, great lion prides, countless buffalo, wild dogs, leopards, the occasional cheetah and over 400 species of bird. The park’s lush pools are also filled with crocodile and hippo.

Stay: Four nights in a double tent at John’s Camp – full board
