Underground in Belize

An hour’s hike along the trails and streams of the Tapir Mountain Nature Reserve; a further 2-hour crawl through underground caves with only your guide and a head torch for company (unless you count the catfish, bats and scorpions); and the skeleton of a young Mayan girl to greet you in the burial chambers at the end of it all.

Oh, and you will be submerged in water for much of it!

Not everyone’s cup of tea, but our intrepid explorer and Central American expert, Laura Trace, took the plunge and and it is, by all accounts, an incredible experience.
